Epic Drill Master logo

Set it on the floor. It climbs the stud and cuts the hole.

Epic Drill Master grips the studs, climbs to the top plate, starts cutting into it with hole saws, then comes back down. No ladder goes up. The first EPIC tool. Patent pending.

How it works

Drill Master standing in the stud bay.

1. Set it in the bay.

Load the hole saws for the run and stand it between the studs.

Drill Master at the top of the studs.

2. It climbs.

Two arms push out against the studs, so it holds itself in place with no ladder, lift or fixture. It checks its grip and climbs to the plate.

3. It cuts and comes back.

It starts cutting into the top plate, then drives back down to the floor, ready for the next bay.

Why crews want it

Crews stay on the floor.

About 81% of construction fall injuries treated in an ER involve a ladder (NIOSH, 2011 data). With Drill Master, no ladder goes up to cut the plate.

Hours back.

A house can take a journeyman and two apprentices a full day of drilling. Drill Master is built to hand a big share of that day back to the crew.

Square, consistent holes.

It holds itself level as it climbs, so every hole goes in the same way no matter who's running it.

Built for rough-in.

It carries more than one hole saw size for supply and vent runs, and setups for electrical, low-voltage and HVAC are planned.

A working prototype, shown as it really is.

Drill Master is a working prototype. It has climbed real studs and cut into wood plates on our test rig, and in October it climbed the wall and cut with all three heads. We show real test footage, rough edges and all, and we label any animation as an animation.

A robot built for one job.

Every new building gets drilled for pipe, wire and duct, and crews still do it by hand off a ladder. Drill Master is a task-specific construction robot, not a do-everything humanoid. It does one job the trades repeat thousands of times, and it's the first tool in the EPIC line.
